Our work is just getting started.
When Right at Home launched in February, we set out to prove that homelessness can be stopped before it starts. In Santa Clara County, Destination: Home has already built a research-backed prevention model that works, with 44,000 people remaining in their homes and avoiding the trauma and impacts of becoming homeless.
Now, Right at Home is taking this work national. Starting with 10 pilot communities, we will keep more than 10,000 households at high risk of homelessness in their homes over the next five years. This effort is backed by nearly $90 million in new funding so far, including support through TED’s Audacious Project, Cisco, Sobrato Philanthropies, and the Valhalla Foundation and is carried out in true partnership with leaders from all ten communities across the country.
Working with the pilot communities and our national research partners at the University of Notre Dame’s Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities (LEO) Right at Home will test and rigorously evaluate the impact of rapid, flexible financial assistance, and inform the case for national prevention policy.
All ten pilot communities are chosen.
We have selected and officially announced all 10 Right at Home pilot communities. The sites span urban, suburban, rural, and Tribal geographies across the country, helping us prove that prevention works everywhere. Each pilot is led by a local organization that knows its community intimately — because preventing homelessness works best when designed by the people closest to the challenge and who know their local community

Atlanta Spotlight – Partners for HOME

Atlanta has already launched and provided over $338,000 in assistance to nearly 100 households since July. The Atlanta site is led by Partners for HOME, the nonprofit coordinating the City of Atlanta’s entire homeless response system. Under Mayor Andre Dickens, Partners for HOME has become the backbone of one of the most ambitious housing efforts in the country, Atlanta Rising, a $235 million citywide campaign to end unsheltered homelessness.
Already, assistance helped a household of two remain stably housed after a surgery-related absence from work left the family unable to keep up with rent. The funding prevented displacement during the recovery period, and the household has since returned to work and can now sustain their housing independently.
After an unexpected job loss left a client behind on rent, the pilot provided assistance to reduce rental arrears and prevent eviction. The client subsequently returned to work and contributed to the balance. Through coordinated intervention with the local provider and landlord, the eviction was halted and the household remains stably housed.
Assembly Bill 1924
In California, Assembly Bill 1924 (Gabriel) awaits the governor’s signature. Supported by Destination: Home, the bill would require the California Interagency Council on Homelessness to establish a statewide strategy to prevent homelessness before it happens.
From CalMatters: “Prevention has become an increasingly popular way to tackle homelessness, as it’s much easier and cheaper to help someone hold onto their housing than it is to re-house them once they wind up on the streets. Organizations already using this strategy have found that giving someone several thousand dollars can allow them to avoid homelessness.” Working with the pilot communities and LEO as the national evidence partner, Right at Home will test and rigorously evaluate the impact of rapid, flexible financial assistance, and inform the case for a national prevention policy.
Right at Home In the Media

Fixed income: One disruption away from losing everything
At the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness, we spend a lot of time thinking about what happens after someone becomes homeless—how people get connected to shelter, services and ultimately, housing. But with older adults, we need to ask an earlier question: What could have kept this person housed in the first place?

Nebraska U becomes partner in national homelessness prevention initiative
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Center on Children, Families and the Law is joining Right at Home, a national initiative to stop homelessness before it starts.

The City of Philadelphia Office of Homeless Services Awarded $5 Million Grant Toward Homelessness Prevention Initiatives
The Office of Homeless Services (OHS) has received a $5 million grant from Destination: Home’s Right at Homeinitiative that will fund OHS’s work to prevent homelessness in Philadelphia. OHS will use the grant’s initial $500,000 installment to develop an innovative program that will help individuals and families who are on the verge of becoming homeless to stay in their current homes..
What We’re Sharing Online
10 communities. One movement to stop homelessness before it starts. From Alaska to Florida, Right at Home’s pilot communities are helping build America’s first national homelessness prevention strategy.

Nebraska is Right at Home! The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Center on Children, Families, and the Law and its partners are bringing proven prevention strategies to families across the state, joining Right at Home’s network of communities working to stop homelessness before it starts.
Looking Ahead
Our national prevention work is just beginning. This fall, more of our pilot communities will launch, helping keep our neighbors housed and adding to the evidence that we can stop homelessness before it starts. We’re looking forward to sharing updates as the pilot communities begin implementing the prevention model. In the meantime, follow along on Instagram at @rightathomeusa and on Linkedin at @Right at Home USA, and start getting excited for the 2026 National Lived Experience Conference in San Jose on September 28-30.
